The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. The festival has a long history that dates back to over 2,000 years ago. It is said to commemorate the great poet Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan was a loyal and patriotic poet in ancient China. He loved his country and wanted to make it better. However, his advice was not listened to, and he was exiled. Feeling sad and hopeless, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River.
To prevent fish from eating his body, people threw rice dumplings called zongzi into the river. They also rowed boats and beat drums to scare away evil spirits. The Dragon Boat Festival is now celebrated with dragon boat races and eating delicious zongzi.
